London 2012 Olympic Torch

The London 2012 Olympic torch has been lit, sparking the start of the torch relay to end at the Games' opening ceremonies on July 27.

The triangular torch is designed to highlight the fact that London is hosting the Olympics for the third time. It also staged the Games in 1908 and 1948,

From Greece, the flame will travel to Britain for a 70-day torch relay covering 8,000 miles across the United Kingdom, Greek swimmer and Olympic silver medalist Spyros Gianniotis will be the first of 490 torchbearers.

In the traditional ritual, an actress dressed as a high priestess used a mirror to focus the sun's rays and light the torch at the birthplace of the ancient Olympics in Greece,
